There’s something truly magical about weddings, especially when they take place at a stunning location like Lakeview Park in Lorain, Ohio. On a perfect spring day, with blue skies and a gentle breeze coming off Lake Erie, I had the absolute joy of live painting Ava and Nick’s first kiss during their wedding ceremony.

My day began with sketching out the background. I wanted to get a head start on the blue sky and the shimmering waters of Lake Erie before the guests started arriving. The early morning light provided the perfect natural lighting to capture the serene beauty of the location. I carefully painted the sky, blending different shades of blue to reflect the calm and clear spring day. Next, I moved to the water, capturing the gentle waves and the subtle reflections on the lake. Blending these colors was super peaceful, and I had to remind myself to keep moving forward and not get too lost in the rhythmic movements.
As guests started arriving, I shifted my focus to more prominent details. The big wooden cross, which stood as a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony, was the first significant element I added. I then moved on to the floral decorations, ensuring each flower and arrangement was meticulously represented to mirror the actual setup. Finally, it was time to paint Ava and Nick. My assistant, Marah, was there to help snap a photo of the actual first kiss, giving me a reference photo to utilize for the remainder of the day.

Once the ceremony wrapped up, we moved to the grand Antlers Ballroom for the reception. Here, I set up my easel once more to finalize the painting. Guests often lingered around, watching me paint and offering sweet compliments. Their curiosity and kind words added a warm and engaging atmosphere to the process.
During this time, I focused on adding the final touches that would bring the painting to life. These details gave the painting depth and a realistic quality. I meticulously worked on the shadows and highlights, ensuring the cross, sand, and Ava and Nick were portrayed with depth and dimension. I tediously painted the ruffles on Ava’s dress, capturing its elegance and beauty. The highlights on Nick’s pink tux were added to reflect the unique color and style.
One of the best parts of my job is seeing the couple’s reaction to the finished painting. Ava and Nick were over the moon when they saw it. Their faces lit up with surprise and joy, a moment we captured in a photo that perfectly shows their happiness. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.
Live wedding painting isn’t just about creating art; it’s about capturing a moment in time that the couple can cherish forever. Ava and Nick’s wedding at Lakeview Park was a beautiful celebration of love, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. Their painting is now a timeless keepsake, a reminder of their perfect spring day by Lake Erie.
Live wedding painting adds a unique and personal touch to any wedding. It gives guests something exciting to watch and gives the couple a beautiful piece of art to remember their special day. Whether it’s a serene beach setting or a grand ballroom, each painting captures the heart and emotion of the moment.
