Live Wedding Painting Ava & Nick’s Ceremony [Lakeview Park – Lorain, Ohio]

A Beautiful Spring Day in Lorain, Ohio

On a perfect spring day, with blue skies and a gentle breeze coming off Lake Erie, I had the absolute joy of live painting Ava and Nick’s first kiss during their wedding ceremony. The day started off at Lakeview Park in Lorain, Ohio, and later continued on right down the road at Grand Antlers Ballroom!

The Painting Process: Bringing the Scene to Life

Step 1: Sketch out the Lake Erie background & begin forming some colors on the canvas

My day began with set up, envisioning the painting in my mind, and then finally sketching out the background. I wanted to get a head start on the blue sky and the vibrant waters of Lake Erie before the guests started arriving. The early morning light provided the perfect natural lighting to capture the serene beauty of the location. I carefully painted the sky, blending different shades of blue to reflect the calm and clear spring day. Next, I moved to the water, painting in subtle and gentle waves from the lake. Blending these colors was super peaceful, and I had to remind myself to keep moving forward and not get too lost in the rhythmic movements.

Adding Venue Details & Bringing the Painting To LIfe

As guests started arriving, I shifted my focus to more noticeable details. For example, the big wooden cross, which stood as a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony, was the first significant element I added. I then moved on to the floral decorations, ensuring i made note of the different colors and beautiful placement the florist worked so hard on. Once the ceremony was reaching an end, it was finally time to paint Ava and Nick. My assistant, Marah, was there to help snap a photo of the actual first kiss, giving me a reference photo to utilize for the remainder of the day.

Continuing the Live Painting at Antlers Grand Ballroom

Once the ceremony wrapped up, we moved to the grand Antlers Ballroom for the reception. Here, I set up my easel once more to finalize the painting. Guests often lingered around, watching me paint and offering sweet compliments. Their curiosity and kind words was of course, greatly appreciated and i truly loved talking to everyone while i worked my way through the wedding painting.

Adding the Finishing Touches

As the reception went on, I focused on adding the final touches that would bring the painting to life. These details gave the painting depth and a realistic quality. I meticulously worked on the shadows and highlights, ensuring the cross, sand, and Ava and Nick were portrayed in a creative way that reflected my style of artwork. Painting the tedious ruffles on Ava’s dress might have been one of my favorite parts during this process. I really loved how textured & realistic they looked! Lastly, I signed the painting with my signature – ironically enough this step always makes me the most anxious; despite signing my name my entire life. (lol)

The Big Reveal: Ava and Nick’s Reaction

One of the best parts of my job is seeing the couple’s reaction to the finished painting. Ava and Nick were over the moon when they saw it. Their faces lit up with surprise and joy, a moment we captured in a photo that perfectly shows their happiness. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do.
