I recently had the opportunity to do a live wedding painting at Standing Rock Farms in Madison, Ohio. The couple, Kenzie and Jake, chose to have their first dance painted—and it ended up being such a beautiful moment to bring to life on canvas.
Standing Rock Farms is a barn-style wedding venue nestled in the heart of Northeast Ohio. It has wood-paneled walls, large windows, soft lighting, and a warm rustic charm that feels both elegant and cozy. During Kenzie and Jake’s first dance, golden sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a glow across the space that added such a peaceful and romantic feel to the evening.
For each live wedding painting, the couple chooses the moment they want captured. In this case, Kenzie and Jake selected their first dance. I typically arrive a few hours before the ceremony to set up my easel and begin sketching the background. This allows me to have a good portion of the scene started before guests arrive—so they get to watch the fun part unfold in real time.
As Kenzie and Jake danced, I added their figures into the painting, layering in the details like the candlelit tables, floral arrangements, and that beautiful lighting coming through the windows. It’s always special to create something the couple can take home and remember forever.
